Time for another get-away and this year it’s South America!
I have been before, in 1990 about two weeks after moving to Sydney. I think somehow that is the only reason I actually got to Sydney as I was so excited about going away that I managed the move with a baby and a two year old quite well.
All I remember about food in Argentina and Brazil in the 90’s was meat, meat and more meat! Oh, and lots of fried street food in Brazil. We had a baby sitter in Melbourne who had been an exchange student in Brazil and she told me about all the really bad things that the Brazilians love to buy and eat on the run. I tried some in Rio but not my thing.
This trip we are going to different places than I have been to before, except for Buenos Aires. For any of you that haven’t been there it really is the “Paris” of South America. The wide, tree lined streets and striking architecture really does give it that Paris feel. A city full of wonderful restaurants and bars – I just can’t wait to see it again!
So we have three weeks away so apologies for the lack of new posts. I will keep my eyes open for some dishes that I can convert to cooking in the steam oven 🙂
First stop: Santiago, Chile
Including visits to Valparaiso & Vina Del Mar and 2 day lake crossing Puerto Varas to Bariloche, Argentina
Next stop: Buenos Aires to experience the city highlights including a Tango show and introduce Simon to the “Paris of South America”.
Then onto Iguazu Falls where we get to stay right on the falls and visit both sides (ie Brazilian and Argentinian) This will be amazing and something I wanted to do and didn’t get to do on the last trip.
Then off to Brazil to Sao Paulo to see if they have different food to Rio, experience a new city and all the excitement that follows. I am expecting some World Cup fever, even though it hasn’t started yet. Looking forward to the amazing markets, wines and cocktails too!
Keep cooking whilst I am away 🙂

Great. Just spent big bucks doing up my kitchen with all the latest Bosch Appliances incl. steam oven and have no idea where to start, the recipes were a bit boring in the book provided that had very few pictures…. Was online looking for a steam oven cookbook and came across your site. Perfect… Now I am a bit excited about getting started. Look fwd to seeing more ideas for the steam oven. :))
